I want to Fail

I think, every year, the period of December to January can be safely called as an “Introspection period”. Many look at what they have done during the past year, and most of them end up getting disappointed. Very few are the ones, who look back and end up smiling. The introspection period also gives birth to many “New Year resolutions.” Some resolve to lose weight, while some promise to make more money. Many of my friends make the resolution (either publicly or privately) of finding their soul-mate. Anyway, the introspection period did not spare me as well. But this time I was pretty clear what I wanted. I wanted to fail. Hold on…hold on.. before you conveniently categorize me as a “nut-job”, hear me out.

Remember being a toddler? Learning to walk must have been such a fascinating thing to do. We fell. We stumbled and fumbled. But we never frigging gave up. We were not afraid of being laughed at because we had no ego. We kept on going… and tada! One fine day the baby could walk.

What exactly has changed? Why have we become more afraid? Why is it that we have reached a point where failing is considered as a disgrace? Why do we pamper our ego? Our stupid ego! Have we become slaves? The fear of facing the sadness after a failure – does it really damage you beyond repair?
Hence the resolution of – Failing!

Failing is an experience. It teaches us so much! “Not trying" teaches us nothing.. It keeps us deprived from what could have been a wonderful experience. So what if you fail? Are you afraid that people will talk? People always talk! Are you worried that you might feel sad? Well, I am not saying it will be easy… I am saying it will be worth it.

What matters is how you react to failure. Failure brings about a change in us. There are some who are so crushed by it that they give up. There are others who mourn for a while, but are back with a bang, with a renewed vigour, all set to take the challenge head-on. Which category should we belong to?

Failing-1 , Not trying-0
